fritillaria

A perhaps not common bulb in Australia the fritillaria bulb is one that I am drawn to with its checkerboard petals.

  1. This is an extremely fascinating drawing David! Although I was never acquainted with the Fritillaria bulb until now, my curiosity got the better of me, so I looked it up in Wikipedia and came across the Fritillaria Meleagris species, which is a very deep purple checkered lily. Quite extraordinary really! ….I’ve never seen anything like it before! It almost reminds me of the book titled “Day of the Triffids” which was compulsory reading when I was at school! And yes, it does look somewhat prehistoric in appearance, as Anna described it! Anyway, lovely drawing David! ….But where is that splash of purple? ( reminiscent of your “Two Tulips” drawing, which I totally adored! ) Sorry, I know I’m being very cheeky now, and I already know the reason, but I just had to ask the question!! Looking forward to seeing you all on Sunday!
